Robot vacuums and mop are becoming more capable. They pass our tests on cleaning and can handle a variety of floors. Look for models that let you choose from multiple modes, use their charging dock to self-empty, and clean up stairs.

1. Eufy Omni S1 Pro

The gloss black and gunmetal Omni S1 Pro from Eufy is one of most impressive mop and robot vacuum combos available. It uses lidar for navigation making maps of floors and rooms.

When I tested the S1 It was quick to locate our downstairs, which has laminate flooring in the kitchen, dining room and bathrooms, plus carpeting of medium-pile as well as a large area rug. It was capable of driving up to walls and even cross raised thresholds without issue. However it was a bit difficult navigating down the stairs in one go. The S1 performed well in cleaning hard floors. Its mop drove smoothly on its flat side and lifted itself when it reached carpets or carpets.

Before each mopping session, the docking station of the S1 automatically emptys its dust bin and refills its water tank with clean filtered ozonated water. Its navigation capabilities are robust, however it does sometimes get hung up on the tiny carpets or area mats that I have in my home (which is something you can reduce by creating a virtual boundary within the application). The mopping feature is pretty impressive, and comes with a pair of spin mops that actually lift and scrub floors, instead of simply dragging the pad over it. The mops can be cleaned using heated water and dried in the basestation when needed. The mops are also refilled from the top of the base station when required.

3. Dreame X40 ultra

Dreame launched the luxurious X30 Ultra earlier this year however their latest top-of-the-line robot hoover mop and vacuum comes with more impressive features. The X40 Ultra does an excellent job of vacuuming, removing large and fine particles from both hard floors and carpets. It was able to clean the dirtiest areas of our tests efficiently, avoiding pet hairs and other mess. The sweeping power is enhanced by an additional side brush that automatically swings out to tackle hard-to-reach corners, and an extending mop pad that can be placed alongside baseboards.

Its navigation is nimble that can navigate tight spaces and climbing stairs without skipping a beat. It can go from one room to the next without having to reverse direction. This is useful for homes that have multiple rooms. Its obstacle avoidance system is less advanced than that of some competitors and leaves a large margin around obstacles. This can lead to miss-hit spots.

The interface of the app is simple and streamlined. It should be simple to use for both novices and experienced users. The app allows you to plan and manage cleanings, adjust suction power and mopping settings as well as view 3D and 2D maps, and much more. The Q5 is a stripped-down version of the more expensive models in the S-series from the company, which includes the flagship Roborock S8 maxV ultra. It uses the same LIDAR mapping sensors, but it's cheaper since it doesn't have mopping capabilities, and also has an aluminum body.

Despite losing the ability to mop floors, the Q5 still has the best mopping and vacuum performance we've seen from a robot at this price. It's got a powerful suction power of 5500Pa and an auto-empty system, which means you don't need to manually empty the bin every time. It also features a smart application that lets you choose the type of floor and schedule cleanings, as well as an automatic vacuum cleaner water tank refill and wash system to allow hands-free operation.

Its mops are also awe-inspiring with 2700Pa of power to tackle dirt, dust and pet hair on hard floors and carpets.
